Hi All,
I am looking for information about my Father. I have a picture of him which was taken around 1954-56 of him in uniform. I think this was taken when he was serving his national service. I have search lots of badges and the ACC seems to be the closest to the cap badge he's wearing?.
I have'nt a lot of information on him at the moment as I am still researching him, but any info would be gratefully recieved. ok he is the one on the left of the picture, Melvyn Jones Born 19th/20th Feb 1936, lived @ 93 Langton St Seedley, Salford. He would have had a daughter Sandra who was born 1954.
If he was ACC and from Salford any ideas where he would have been posted first?
Could this be ACC cap badge?.
Is there a search I can do on the ACC to see if he was in this unit, with limited info?.
Steve

Thanks Fireman, but going through most badges, this is the cap badge I have come across. Would this have been worn around 1954-56?

Definitely an ACC badge. The uniforms appear to be displaying the distinctive light coloured flashes that would probably be the yellow of the Army Catering Corps.
Interesting to note there do not appear to be any lanyards being worn, also the recruit on the right of the picture is not wearing his beret in strict Regimental fashion eg Badge centered above the eye and beret level around the forehead one inch above the eyebrows. Also of note, the absence of basic training flashes being worn on the epaulets. One would assume not a trainee in Aldershot. If he was from up North, possibly trained in Catterick. Certainly the same style of uniform I was issued with in 54/56.

Further to my last post. Reading over your father's details and noting the date of his birth, He would have probably been conscripted into National Service on or around the second intake in 1954. eg 5402 or 5403  equating to the second or third intake in the year 1954 there were two intakes of recruits every month one per fortnight. His number would have been somewhere close to mine which from memory was 22988023 I was born on the Twelfth of February.
The important part being the first two numbers (22). Hope this helps.
