The Officers Mess in GhQ MELF was built by the Germans in WW2, it contained a stable block.
The cooks compound was to the rear of the stables.
After a night on the town it was a kind of ritual to prop ones self against the rear of the stables using it as a  'Wailing Wall' to decry the evils of the demon drink along with personal needs and cries of "Oh God" before staggering to bed to sleep it off.
So it was on this Christmas morning, a Major arrived in jovial mood with breakfast trays for the lads a custom that was much appreciated. With the final tray and good wishes being delivered the Officer departed through the tent flap whereby, presumably because of the heat of the day, he was met with an overpowering whiff of the wall area, for suddenly a remark in rich Irish Brogue echoed aloud of, "Jeesus! Who's been P*****g up against the wall?
