It is with deep regret and much sadness that I inform the the site of the death of Norman on 20 September 2006.

Norman had been an In-Pensioner at The Royal Hospital, Chelsea for quite a few years and been in poor health for the past 2 or 3.  He joined as an In-Pensioner having worked at the hospital after completing his Colour Service

Norman was a larger than life character and will be known to many who visit this site.  He served for most of his Service at the Depot & Training Battalion, having given up "Bobbageeing" because he was a crap cook!

I first met and worked with him in 1966 and still remember the memorable escort we both did to Oldham to pick up a wayward chef.  How could I forget Norman marching him across Manchester from Central Station to Piccadilly with a raincoat over the cuffs!  And who could forget the night he fell asleep at a Mess Dinner....straight into his soup?  What a character and what a lovely friend he was to many.

Farewell dear friend, you made me and many more feel proud to have served with and known you.  God Speed.

(My apologies for the late insertion I've just returned from holiday to this sad news)
