Fred Chapman, passed away on the, 20th May 2016, just one day after his 71st birthday. His funeral was held on the 7th June, at St Bede's Chapel, Middlesbrough, followed by cremation.

Dunkirk Platoon was well represented on the day, to say farewell to Fred.  Doug Harrison, Joe Edwards, Bob Turton, Mike Blake, David & Jill Handley, Roger & Brenda Smith and myself, were in attendance. We formed a guard of honour at the entrance to the chapel, and saluted Fred as he passed, the coffin being draped with the 'Union Jack'.

After the service, we were all invited back to take refreshments. It was here that his two sons, Brian and Neil, thanked us for coming, to say farewell to Fred. We had quite a conversation with them and their family, about our times with Fred.
